There’s plenty of advice out there on how to prepare your home for sale, determine its value, and make sure all is in place with the paperwork. However, what you will probably discover as you move through all of the decisions involved in this process is that selling your home and preparing to move is physically and emotionally draining, time-consuming, and chaotic at times. So how do you maintain your sanity throughout this process? Here are a few tips for selling your home and staying sane.
- Keep your routines as much as possible. Doing the things that keep you on track mentally, physically, and emotionally will contribute to your ability to cope. Go to the gym if that’s your thing, take the dog for his daily walk, and continue with that weekly lunch with your mom.
- Make lists. You will have a lot of take care of once you move, particularly if you’re leaving town – finding a new doctor, scoping out the best grocery stores, etc. Making lists of things you will need to accomplish helps you feel in control and reduces anxiety about the change.
- Plan a housewarming party for your new place. It will give you something to look forward to, as well as something fun to focus on if only for a few minutes a day.
