We’ve all had them at one point or another in life – those no-good neighbors who drive us crazy and even worse, cause concern when it comes time to list our house, making us wonder – “Can I sell my home with these difficult people around?” You can, but it will definitely be more of a challenge than it would be if all was peaceful in the area.
Types of Bad Neighbors
The Slobs: These are the neighbors who use their yard as a dump, display cars on blocks as lawn décor, and don’t seem to care about the state of the exterior of their home. They might be perfectly nice people, but their habits can hurt your home’s value.
The Big Mouth: This is the obnoxious guy (or girl) who never seems to have anywhere to be except outside making your life miserable with his/her big, opinionated mouth. If this person happens to be outside when prospective buyers come by, you could have a problem.
The Questionable House: This is the house with people coming and going at all hours, possibly loud parties, and generally suspicious goings on. This may perhaps be the worst kind of house because criminal activity is a major turnoff.
You can try banding together with other, more affable neighbors, in order to talk to the person reasonably and try to work together towards a resolution. Selling your house with nasty neighbors is indeed possible, but you may wind up having to drop the price in the end.
